Summer glow make up gives me life. I love feeling like a bronzed goddess, especially in the sunshine. When I’m on holiday, I can usually be found on the beach with no makeup on and massive shades, however I do love to make an effort I go to a day party and for the evening.
Being almost as pale as an A4 piece of paper and also someone who only wears factor 50 (I want to be a beautiful granny), I have to fake it if I want to achieve that bronzed summer glow. Therefore, I teamed up with professional makeup artist Charli Avery to show you how to achieve the look, no matter what you natural complexion.
It’s worth saying that whenever I go on holiday, I always get a Fake Bake spray tan. I use the Secret Spa app and they come directly to my house (London only), but you can go and get spray tans done in spas. I swear by the 60 minute tan and I leave it on for two and a half hours before washing it off; this is amazing because it means you don’t get fake tan on your bedsheets! You can also apply it yourself if you’re brave enough but I would recommend trialling it so you don’t have any accidents before your holiday.
If you want to avoid the spray tans all together, then believe it or not, these photos are spray tan-free! Charli managed to fake it with wash-off makeup! So let me tell you how you can achieve this look!
Summer Glow Makeup
Like I mentioned, this look is to achieve that bronzed goddess look, so think dewy but definitely not sweaty! Lots of bronze and golden colours, and most importantly still relatively natural, as I don’t know about your but I don’t want to look too overdone in the sun.
Preparing your skin:
So before applying any makeup, it’s important to prepare your skin. Charli sprayed the Nars Skin Multi-Action hydrating toner all over my face, which brightens and hydrates it, then she applied a rather fabulous Charlotte Tilbury moisturiser that has SPF 15. Obviously SPF is so important if you’re hanging around a lot outside, so if you need to put a higher factor suncream on your face then of course do this before applying makeup. The Tilbury moisturiser is a really rich balm, so it gives you really glowy skin. Next, Charli applied an eye cream so keep lids hydrated (although I’m sure tears will do a good job of that at the actual wedding) so that makeup doesn’t go cakey under the eyes. Finally, she applied a Nars illuminator on all the high points of my face; these are the places that catch the sun, so cheek bones, nose, and forehead. I’ve used this illuminator before but always on top of my makeup, but Charli explained that putting it underneath the base means it doesn’t look so metallic and therefore it’s more of a natural glow.
Toner: Nars Skin Multi-Action Hydrating toner
Moisturiser: Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream
Eye Cream: Bobbi Brown
Illuminator: Nars in Copocabana
The base:
For the base, Charlie mixed a Nars foundation with the Estee Edit Flash Illuminator for an overall bronzed look on my face, before mixing the same illuminator with Dove Visible effects moisturiser to my neck and chest to balance my skin tone. Nobody wants a bronzed face and pale neck and chest, it looks awful!
Of course, a summer glow would be impossible without a bit of bronzer, and Charli used a beautiful Estee Lauder one. I love the tone of it and how it gives a super natural bronzed look, and how it looks against the illuminator. Who needs the sun, huh?
Finally, she added a super natural lipgloss, just to keep the look fresh and natural.
Foundation: Nars- Velvet Matte Skin
Illuminator: The Estee Edit Flash Illuminator in 5 Nightlight
Bronzer: Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess
Neck & Chest: Dove visible effects and Estee edit illuminator
Legs: Bobbi Brown
Lips: Forever Lab Shine (I’m using S6)
The eyes:
Lower lid to crease: Mac Pro Longwear Waterproof Colour Stick (I’m wearing at the beach)
Coverage: Marc Jacobs (I’m wearing Copper)
Eyeliner: Bobbi Brown (I use Black Coffee)
Under eye powder: Ben Nye luxury powder (I’m wearing Banana)
Brows: Illamasque Precision Gel (I’m wearing Strike)
Hair
To complete the look, Charli created a beachy wave to my hair using my new favourite GHD straighteners, how cute is this colour? It also really matches my very copper themed bedroom!
Next, we tied it up in a messy bun leaving a few bits out at the front, because I don’t know about you guys but my hair gets so hot and heavy in the sun, and I way prefer it out of my face.
I also swear by this Sexy Hair weather proof humidity spray when I’m in the sun, as it stops your hair going frizzy or losing a curl in the heat.
In case you are wondering about where my outfit is from, in case you love it as much as me, I have listed everything below. The necklace is the map of Africa and part of it made from the Robben Island prison fence, the prison in which Nelson Mandela was held. The company is called Legacy Collection and a % of all the profits go to help disadvantaged children in South Africa.
Co-Ord: Pretty Little Thing
Rose Gold Bag: Aspinal of London
Necklace: Legacy Collection
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
So, that’s how you totally fake the bronzed goddess makeup look. I hope you love this look as much as I do! Would you wear this makeup look?
