I can’t believe I’ve only been in my new home for 6 months, as I’ve done so much to the house and have also become OBSESSED with interiors. Getting a house opens you up to a whole new world of wonderful designers and interior brands and I have found some wonderful independent brands as well as found some real gems on the more well-known sites.
I get so many questions about my home, and am also really proud of it, so I thought I would show you some of my favourite interior discoveries and pieces in my home.
This post has been a long time coming, but I am such a perfectionist and wanted to wait until everything was completed before I showed it off, but now I realise that it will probably never be finished as I keep changing everything around. Can anyone else relate to that? My one piece of advice for other first-time buyers is: Take Your Time! I made so many mistakes because I bought everything at once and rushed a lot of choices, that now I am going back and stripping it all back a little and finding a theme. I’m sure that will be another post!
So, without further ado, here are some of my favourite furniture and furnishing finds for my living room:
Rose & Grey: My pink sofa and green ottoman.
Before my house had even completed, I spent hours scrolling through Pinterest and creating mood boards for how I wanted each room to look, and that is exactly how I found this pink sofa and green ottoman from Rose & Grey. It was a love at first sight moment, and I actually styled my whole room around it. The ottoman is a great footstool, and the pets love lying on it too, I went for the Olive Velvet colour. The pink sofa is in Blush Pink Velvet and I absolutely love it, especially the legs.
The only thing I regret about buying this sofa is that in my haste to get one quickly, I mis-measure the wall before moving in and so I ordered a sofa that is probably slightly smaller than I wanted. I have my eyes on their equally as epic Epsom Corner sofa, that I will order at some point in the same shade of pink
West Elm: The TV Cabinet.
I had hoped to use the a lot of the furniture I already owned from my rented property, however my original West Elm TV Console was much too small for the wall and also had no hidden storage space, meaning not only did the wall look sad and lonely, but there were so many visible wires and equipment (such as the Sky Box). I searched far and wide for something that would fit the whole wall and it was actually on West Elm I found this incredible mid-century cabinet. The dimensions were perfect, and there is so much storage I can even have all my books and DVD’s hidden away too.
Tip: Whilst you can buy directly from the West Elm website, the delivery time was much longer, so I purchased mine on John Lewis. Not only did I get free delivery, but I had it about three days after purchase.
Another Pinterest discovery, I think I can honestly say that Audenza is my absolutely favourite interiors website. In fact, I’ve pretty much bought the entire website. Well, not quite, but I am going for drinks with them next weekend, so that shows my name has popped up on their orders way too much!
Probably the most stand-out and also extravagant purchase is the amazing gold palm tree lamp. I wanted my home to be a reflection of my passions and happiest memories, and travel plays a big part in both of these, and the palm tree reminds me of Tulum in Mexico. I spent a lot of time there when I was solo-travelling (you can read about that trip here), and so I absolutely love it.
Similarly, my giraffe side table reminds me of the trip Charlotte and I took to Kenya last year. It was the first time I’d ever gone on safari and I fell in love with both the people and the animals, and giraffes were my absolute favourite. I got the neon heart to sit on the table because obviously I love love and talk about it a lot, plus the pink light gives off a really cosy light when you’re watching a film. You’ll see bits of Audenza sprinkled all over my home actually, as I also got the green vase with fake flowers, an octopus wine holder, gold coasters, gold placemats, and shaggy rugs to protect my sofa from the animals. Perhaps I need to do a whole separate post dedicated to Audenza!
I can’t remember how I first discovered Emma, but I fell in love with her beautiful illustrations the moment I saw them. I think I originally got a cushion for my sofa, and then eventually decided to brave it and invest in her Tigris wallpaper. I love adventure and colour, so I knew I didn’t want to have white walls in my home, even though it was incredibly nerve-wracking to do. It’s always the first thing people notice when they come into my house though. The matching lampshade I found on a cool site called Love Frankie.
Another brilliant illustrator is Charlotte Jade, who I discovered through a recommendation on instagram. I decided I wanted to use her leopard print fabric from her ‘Into The Wild’ collection to create custom made blinds to add some character to the frosted windows in front of my dining table. I also have her wallpaper in my bedroom which you will see in an upcoming post. It took me a while to find a company who made personalised blinds, because it’s something I never had to do before, but I found a local company called West London Blinds who were a lovely couple who turned everything around in about 3 weeks. I love them so much! I think they’ll look so much better once I’ve painted my living room walls too.
I knew I wanted to have loads of green plants in my home, but I didn’t know anything about how to look after them. I came across a website called Patch, who not only have loads of information on the best plants for different rooms, but also deliver them to your door. I have spent a small fortune on my plant babies, and they bring me constant anxiety as I attempt to keep them alive, but I think it makes a house feel so much more homely.
Originally I was using my beloved Grandma’s dining table which she was given it as a wedding present, but it was sadly too small for the space. I know I wanted to really sociable house and love hosting dinner parties, so that meant I went on the hunt for a big table. I actually found this beauty by mistake when Charlotte and I went window shopping in my local Barker & Stonehouse. This table was actually ex-display so I was really lucky and got it for well below the original price.
I kept my grandma’s original four dining chairs, which I (and by I, I mean my mum and sister) upholstered using some fabric from Cole & Sons, which meant I needed four more chairs for the other side. I came across these amazing ones from Cult Furniture, and spent a while debating between the pink or green velvet. I am always really conscious when injecting pink accents into my home that I don’t want it to look too girly, so I decided to get the green given that I already have a pink sofa!
Finally, I wanted a nice desk to be able to work on and keep my DJ decks, as I never had space in my previous flat. Again, I took some time to find a desk that fit the wall measurements, and eventually came across this amazing one from Cult. When it first arrived I sent it back, as the quality wasn’t as expected, but they replaced it and it’s perfect.
Then I found a filing cabinet from a brand called Bisley that fits perfectly underneath the desk so I can keep all my important documents and accounts well-organised!
My living room is by no means a finished product, there’s so many things I want to tweak and change around, but it’s been such a fun few months discovering a whole new world of interiors. I can’t wait to show you how it evolves over the next couple of weeks.
