Last night I skipped the usual boozy Friday activities and did fitness with friends. AJ Odudu was blue team captain at the most awesome Pack class at the Virgin Active gym in Channing Street and invited me to be on her team alongside Pandora, Pips, and Danielle (see my squad page) at 6:30pm, and I’m not going to lie, I was very very close to pulling out as I was knackered after finishing my radio show at 4pm. I was actually going to ring AJ to pull out but I decided that I’d be annoyed with myself, and also didn’t want to let her down last minute. I’m so glad I stuck to my word!
The pack class is a type of spinning class but with a competitive streak. We are split into three teams, we were all on the blue team with AJ as our team captain, and there was also a pink and a yellow team. And so we began a 45 minute spin class, but with every round there was a different team challenge based around speed or resistance. It was amazing! I’m so competitive so the different challenges really helped to keep me working hard although I have to admit we didn’t win. Actually our team came last! But do you know what I felt like a winner anyway because I made it - I overcame my mental battle, I got a workout, AND best of all I got to see my friends. I have to say an hour with friends also made me feel SO much better! It sounds super cringe but I always underestimate how amazing my friends can make me feel. I also met some other incredible ladies.
On top of that, there’s something so satisfying about coming out of a class and seeing drunk people!
The moral of this story for me is that if I’ve committed to something, I need to force myself to stick to it! So if you’re fighting with your mind about whether that workout is a good idea then DO IT. And store how great you feel afterwards so that next time you’ll look forward to that post-workout feeling. Plus, if you can do fitness with friends, you get both the physical and mental benefits!
Speak to you very soon,
