Kayaking through London

The other week I went kayaking through London with my friend and squad member Pandora. Very random, I know, but they say one of the greatest things about living in London is that we have everything on our doorstep and I realised that I was rarely leaving my front door unless it was for work. So I made a commitment to myself to get out and try some of the amazing things London has to offer, for my own development but also for my mental space. As I’m self employed and spend a lot of time in front of my laptop I find I get stressed and depressed if I don’t force myself to get out. Plus it’s great to learn new things!

The reason I picked kayaking, was that my friend Pandora had just started her new job presenting Kisstory on Kiss FM, and I noticed on her bucket list that one of the things she wanted to do was go kayaking so a google later I had booked a morning kayaking down Regent’s Canal.

A couple of weeks later, on what happened to be a very sunny Saturday, Pandora and I met at the sociable time of 10:30am ready for our 11am kayaking tour. We were put into a group of 5 and had one instructor with us and after a quick lesson and safety talk we were cruising down Regents Canal.

It’s the first time I’d gone along Regent’s Canal and it was honestly like a scene from Jurassic Park. Well, minus the dinasaours obviously! Everything was very green and lush and we even went through the middle of London Zoo where we saw hyenas to our right and birds to our left.

We went all the way along to Camden and back, and we even stopped along the way for a mid morning glass of champagne that we drank in our canoes!

We were back and out of the canal in time for lunch and Pandora and I both agreed it was the best morning. We loved it so much we’re even looking into getting a kayaking licence so we can go down the Thames! Plus, we got to catch up in a completely unique setting and both felt such a sense of happiness at getting together and learning something new.

If you’re in London and I’ve inspired you to go kayaking then the company we used is the London Kayak Tours. I’m already planning my next adventure, so if you have any recommendations let me know!
